Just a Block of Ice

12th October 2019

It was in Iceland, long ago

It was far from India, far from home

Next to deep blue lake I was

Next to the mountains and waterfalls.

It was a day of summer noon

The sky was blue without a moon

In the far of East I could see

The setting sun as it smiled at me.

With prayer of heart and salute of mind

I prayed to the sun as it went down the mountain's chine

And then astonishingly enough

Something floated on the lake, something rough.

It floated through making small ripples

It floated through silently

As the water giggled

And it came to me.

I was confused so with my boat I rowed

Up to the funny object that glowed

It glowed in the light of the sun.

But you could see movements none.

It glowed a red with purple dots

It reflected the light of the sun

It looked solid but transparent it was

And looked like it weighed a ton!

I rowed over to it curiously

But to my great disappointment

It was nothing but a block of ice

And it was nothing that enticed.

But as I turned to go it spoke to me

And startlingly I understood

Though I don't remember what it said

I didn't even think it could.

So I took it and put it in my boat

Though my fingers went numb

I took it to the hotel and put it

In the snow with a little bump.

I didn't think that would do much

But believe me I was wrong

For next day when I was leaving

It sang me a song.

It sang a song to thank me

It sang a song in glee

I also understood every word

That it said to me.

That day I realized that

To save the world it doesn't take much

It doesn't take millions of

Asians, Americans, Africans, Europeans and such.

All you have to do is

Let natures voice be heard

And give us lessons and wisdom

Tell us that there is more than just animals and birds.

God puts up situations

That you think may not be true

So why operate with arrogance and fear

Instead understand who are you.

Every speck of dust is part of nature

Every grain of rice

Tells tales of our existence

Whether it's a glacier or JUST A BLOCK OF ICE.
